Does the Game Boy Color version also work on the Game Boy?

It is not downwards compatible and will only work on the Game Boy Color. However, the Game Boy version is upwards compatible but will not have the DX color palette.

Is the music for the CD the original Game Boy soundtrack or has it been updated/changed?

The OST is the Game Boy soundtrack, but it’s a mastered CD so the music is recorded from original hardware and made to sound as authentic and high quality as possible.
